Welcome to the fifth season finale of Fare of the Free Child Podcast where Akilah gives a State of the Podcast (and network!). She shares resources and invitations focused on the opportunities for rest and reparations and for the deepening of this movement. Thank you all for listening and supporting, this conversation is centered on some of the healing that we’ve done, the healing that we are looking to do in collaboration with others and the opportunities to invest in that healing work at variant levels.

Keep on sharing, shedding and questioning. In January we will be replaying some all-time favorite episodes with some new additions, so don’t miss it!

What we’ve been able to accomplish

  • Raising Free People: Unschooling as Liberation and Healing Work is out! Akilah shares her gratitude to the listeners, for the feedback she had from everyone interested in continuing on this deschooling and liberation journey
  • Fare Of The Free Child had major coverage in the New York Times, Forbes and countless podcasts and local media
  • All the new equipment and resources to keep jamming with our dope content in Raising Free People Network is thanks to you!
  • Voice-Ups as a safe space to talk about specific issues
  • Disrupting academic and corporate spaces in partnership with Black unschoolers

Structure of Raising Free People Network: Three Initiatives and One Offering.

Where we are looking to go

Mentorship and other types of support with emerging community change agents, helping them to develop ways to organize around Self-Directed Education (SDE) in their communities and families.

COURSES AND INVITATIONS

  1. Sundiata and Akilah created a deschooling guide for supporting self-directed children: How to Focus on Learning. Decolonizing from schoolishness towards a more liberated minded approach to support adults in their deschooling process.
  2. From Schoolish to Self-Directed is an audio course in support of the transition that many are experiencing as this pandemic ushers in a swift shift from conventional learning ideas over to innovative ones that center people and learning in various ways.
  3. Is an Agile Learning Center (ALC) a Great Fit For your Family? For some families, an Agile Learning Center provides an ideal space for them and their children to engage in deep learning and community-centered living.
  4. Parenting Patois talks about developing language and practice for unschooling and deschooling practices.
  5. Developing a disruptor’s ear, a workbook for learning how to listen (despite schoolishness and pervasive whiteness) and what to do with what you’re hearing.
  6. The Unschooling Entrepreneur’s Guide to Life & Learning – This one will be out some time near spring of 2021. More soon.
  7. Spirituality On Your Own Terms centers yourself daily with activities & ideas that simplify your spiritual practice.
